Toronto police charge Markham, Ont., man in 2004 slaying of businessman

TORONTO – Toronto police have charged a 30-year-old Markham, Ont., man in a 2004 homicide.

Gaurav Bazaz, 31, of Toronto, was found dead of a gunshot wound early on June 19, 2004, at a north Toronto business complex.

Bazaz operated a business known as Tamanna Enterprises in that building and was also involved in booking entertainment acts from India.

Bazaz was believed to have been alone at his business the day he was shot and was reportedly waiting to meet with someone.

Police said Wednesday that Vijay Singh was arrested on Oct. 6, 2010, and charged with first-degree murder.

Singh is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 30.
