Fight HST goes after Vancouver Island cabinet minister

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Anti-HST organizers have rolled out their recall campaign plan and the group’s first target is on Vancouver Island.  On November 22, the campaign to try to oust Minister of Sciences and Universities Ida Chong in the riding of Oak-Bay-Gordon Head begins.

FightHST crusader Bill Vander Zalm was asked why they’re doing recalls when the government has granted a referendum on the tax.

“We have little more than a promise from the premier, who has recently stepped down as we predicted might happen.  There is a great deal of uncertainty in the province obviously because we’re waiting for this happen, almost a whole year from now.”

Organizers expect to wrap up the Oak Bay recall effort January 29. They will then focus on subsequent phases:

Phase 2

Jan.3 (launch) Targets: Kamloops North MLA Terry Lake and Comox Valley MLA Don McRae

Phase 3

Jan. 31 Targets: Cariboo Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnett and Saanich North and the Islands MLA Murray Coell

Phase 4

Feb. 28 Targets: Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Marc Dalton and Vancouver-Quilchena MLA Colin Hansen

Phase 5

April 1 Targets: MLAs for Boundary Similkameen, Parskville-Qualicum, Kelowna-Mission, West Van-Sea-to-Sky, Vernon-Monashee, Kamloops South, Chilliwack, Langley, Kootenay East, Pentiction
