Minimum wage may soon go up

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There is yet another call to raise BC’s minimum wage.  But you might be surprised who is pushing for it this time around.

The $8 an hour minimum wage hasn’t moved since the Liberals came to office in 2001, but Liberal MLAs on the finance committee say the time has come.

Labour Minister Iain Black tells the Vancouver Sun he’s willing to discuss the proposal with his fellow Liberals.

Black has to consider the potential impacts of any hike to the minimum wage, especially concerns that business owners may have to lay people off if their labour costs go up too high.
