Fire damages Health Canada building in Ottawa

OTTAWA, Ont. – A health Canada building was evacuated in Ottawa due to a large fire, Thursday afternoon.

Officials said most of the building’s 400 workers were sent home for the day, while others took refuge in neighbouring buildings until they could return to retrieve their personal belongings.

Investigators have determined that the blaze broke out in the walls between the first and second floors.

As a result of ongoing roof repairs, the cause is believed to be accidental.

Damage is estimated at $23,000.
