Large fire brought under control in industrial area of Brampton

BRAMPTON, Ont. – A two alarm blaze in an industrial area at Dixie and Steeles is now under control, after it sent black smoke high into the air over the dinner hour, and was visible from the 407 and 410.

Brampton fire officials told 680News they arrived at the scene at 303 Orenda Road just before 7 p.m.

“At this time, it looks like a working fire, just close to the Chrysler building, which is located in that intersection,” said Peel Police Constable George Tudos upon arriving at the scene.

Later, Tudos said it appeared the fire broke out in a metal bin at a factory.

“I’m not sure exactly what type of factory it is. I know the possible products that were inside these metal bins were plastic or a foam of some kind.”

Meanwhile, the 680Newsroom has been flooded with phone calls from people who live in the area or are driving nearby, saying the flames stretch for what appears to be kilometres.

“We got an aerial pumper on the back, shooting from the sky, and we’ve got a couple of fire trucks just in the front with hoses,” said one listener. “We got Peel and ambulance on scene, including the chief of the area.”

Another listener reported that 15 trucks were on the scene.

There have been no reports of injuries at this time.

Orenda Road remains closed in the area as fire crews continue to investigate.
