Expert doesn’t expect ‘Hail Mary’ from Campbell tonight

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Gordon Campbell is getting ready for his close-up.

News1130 spoke with an expert leading up to the Premier’s live TV address tonight. University of Victoria Political Scientist Michael Prince says Gordon Campbell won’t be able to regain some of his popularity, unless he comes out with a dramatic policy announcement.

Prince tells us, “In football, we talk about a ‘Hail Mary’; when you’re deep in your own zone and you’re near the end of the game. Then you throw a long, long pass to one of your players, hoping they’ll catch it in the other end zone and win the game. [In this case,] I can’t quite see what that ‘Hail Mary’ would be.”

Prince says the Premier should also avoid re-announcements or bragging about the Olympics. Most of all, Prince believes the less Campbell says about the HST, the better.

The Premier’s address will be televised tonight on Global at 7pm.
