Police seek witness in hit and run investigation

TORONTO, Ont. – Police are looking for a woman who provided them with vital information following a hit and run late Thursday night.

Just before 11:30 p.m., police were called to Mount Pleasant Road and Elm Avenue – north of Bloor – where a 37 year old man had been struck by a southbound Honda Civic while crossing the street.

The 49 year old driver failed to remain at the scene, but an unknown woman followed the car, and managed to record vital information in regards to the vehicle, license plate number and driver’s description. The woman then returned to the scene and reported the information to another bystander, who was on the phone with emergency officials.

The 37 year old was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries, and the driver of the vehicle was located a short time later and charged with failure to remain.

However, police require the unidentified witness who provided the information to come forward, and are asking her to contact them as soon as possible.

Anyone else who may have information on the crime or the witness is being asked to contact police at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers.
