Two in hospital following separate hit and runs

TORONTO, Ont. – Two separate hit and runs have left a man and a woman in hospital this long weekend, and police continue to search for suspects.

The first happened Sunday morning just after midnight, as a 51 year old woman was crossing the street at Kingston Road and Kalmar Avenue, near Warden.

Police told The Globe and Mail that she was trying to catch up with friends on the other side of the busy street when the vehicle hit her, and kept going.

She was rushed to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

“The driver of the motor vehicle fled the scene after striking the female,” Sergeant Tim Burrows with Traffic Services said.  “We believe what we are looking for is a darker colour, small SUV, and that vehicle, at this point in time, still remains at large, as well as the driver.”

Investigators believe the car would have front end damage, with evidence streaked on the lower grill.

Meanwhile, approximately two and a half hours later, two vehicles were speeding in the Yonge Street and Highway 401 area when they hit each other.

One was sent careening across the lanes and into a tree, while a second – described as a black BMW – fled the scene.

The 20 year old driver of the first vehicle was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
