VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Canadian Federation of Independent Business is furious with the City of Vancouver’s decision to move ahead with the Hornby Street separated bike lane, though it isn’t surprised.
Laura Jones with the CFIB says, “I think [this morning] cyclists are very happy and business owners are really worried.”
City Council sat through a marathon session of 38 speakers before voting unanimously in favour of a six-month trial for the Hornby Street bike lane.
She doesn’t think the indefinite bike lane ‘trial’ will end with a return to the way things are now. “Nobody believes that you are going to spend $3.2 million of taxpayers’ money on something that’s not permanent.”
Jones believes city councillors had already made up their minds about the project before hearing business owners’ concerns.
