Vancouver looks at modular homes for homeless

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The City of Vancouver is considering an innovative way to deal with homeless people on our streets.

Council has put out the call for modular home designers to pitch their ideas. Councillor Kerry Jang believes modular or pre-fabricated homes could be a temporary solution for people trying to find permanent low cost housing in Vancouver.

He says the purpose is to see if the city can reduce housing costs by building manufactured homes. They would not only be for the homeless, but also for people on low incomes who need time to save up enough money in order to buy a home in the future.

Jang says the proposal is still in the in the planning stages and the public will get a chance to have its say before anything is finalized.
