So long summer, fall arrives on Wednesday

TORONTO, Ont. – With summer on its way out and winter fast approaching, there is something to look forward to over the next few weeks.

The leaves are about to change colour and offer a fantastic visual treat.

Fall officially arrives at 11:09 p.m. Wednesday, and experts said the season will be the most breathtaking yet, with bursts of golden, red and purple-tinted leaves.

“[It’s] a little early in the Toronto area to enjoy that blanket of colour, but I think that certainly in Algonquin Park already, in the Muskokas, we’re going to see that gradual change,” Environment Canada’s senior climatologist David Phillips told 680News.

Phillips said the stellar summer with fewer smog days and rain when needed nurtured the trees.

Meanwhile, the last full day of summer is going out with some heat, Tuesday, with a forecasted high of 26C and feeling 30C with the humidity.

Toronto experienced two heat waves this summer, and Environment Canada said this could become the warmest year on record for the city, surpassing the 1998 record.

With the arrival of autumn, then comes winter, and 680News meteorologist Jill Taylor has her prediction.

“Personally, I think we’re in for one of those typical type winters when we see higher amounts of snow, maybe not as cold,” Taylor said.
