Firefighters battle blaze in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – Firefighters have put out a multi-alarm blaze in an abandoned building used as a warehouse, after the property went up in flames at approximately 8:30 Monday morning.

The building on Portage Road is located close to Niagara Falls’ OPP headquarters off Stanley Street and the 420 highway.

Heavy smoke billowed through the city following a series of explosions at the site.

One firefighter was injured but has since been released from hospital.

There is no word on what started the fire or what was stored in the building, but police confirm no one was injured in the blaze.

Police and fire remain on the scene.
