CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – Astronauts are making urgent repairs at the International Space Station.
At sunrise Saturday, the two NASA astronauts began replacing a broken ammonia pump.
The pump shut down a week ago, knocking out half the space station’s cooling system. Engineers have since been working on an emergency repair plan.
The pump is supposed to drive ammonia through the lines and prevent equipment from overheating.
It will take two spacewalks to complete the job.
