OTTAWA – There will be a very minor shuffle of the federal cabinet on Friday, sources said Thursday night.
An opening has been created with the recent announcement by Government House leader Jay Hill that he will not seek re-election.
A government source told The Canadian Press late Thursday that Indian Affairs Minister Chuck Strahl has been tabbed to replace Hill as house leader.
Strahl’s spot is to be filled by John Duncan, a Vancouver Island MP, the source said.
Duncan was first elected to Parliament in 1993 under the Reform banner.
He was re-elected in 1997, 2000 and 2004 before being defeated in 2006 and then re-elected in 2008.
Before entering politics, he worked in B.C.’s forest industry.
The Prime Minister’s Office wouldn’t confirm or deny that there would be a shuffle.
