Elderly Oshawa woman conned out of life savings

OSHAWA, Ont. – Durham Regional Police have charged two men with fraud after an 84-year-old Oshawa woman was conned out of her life savings – close to $1-million over the last 20 years.

The men befriended the elderly woman in the early 90’s and eventually convinced her to give them power of attorney over her finances, investigators said.

Police said they used her money to buy two homes, new vehicles, a camper and a boat.

The woman was then held captive in one of the homes. She eventually escaped after realizing that she had been conned.
