Celebration of Light wraps up

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Another year of fireworks is in the books. Over 100,000 people packed the beaches of English Bay for the last of four fireworks shows last night.

The crowd did face a few roadblocks along the way before enjoying the display.  Two hours before the event, a storm entered the bay and rain poured for about 30 minutes.  However, everyone dried out in time for the tribute to China amazed the crowd.

This year’s Celebration of Light 2010 winner was awarded to Spain.

The fans weren’t the only ones pleased with the show. Vancouver Police say the large crowd behaved well.

Constable Jana McGuinness says this year marked the third year of their ‘Boat Launch Blitz.’  “It’s an initiative aimed at prevention and getting to these boaters early in the evening at the boat launches around the Lower Mainland.  We’ve got an integrated effort going on with the RCMP, the West Vancouver Police, Port Moody Police and the Coast Guard.”
