One dead, others in hospital after crash in North Toronto

One man is dead, and four others have been taken to hospital following a car crash in North York, Saturday.

Police said a Chevrolet Malibu was speeding westbound on Charlton Boulevard – southeast of Bathurst and Drewry Ave – at around 7 a.m. when it went through a stop sign and hit a Dodge Caliber travelling north on Grantbrook Street.

The Malibu hit a concrete hydro pole and a tree before coming to a stop.

A 29-year-old male, who was a rear passenger in the Malibu, was pronounced deat at the scene; while, the driver and a second passenger, both also 29-year-old males, were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 60-year-old driver of the Dodge and the passenger, his 61 year old wife, were taken to hospital as well. They are expected to recover.

OPP Sgt. Tim Burrows told 680News the driver of the Malibu was arrested and is under investigation for alcohol related offences; however, he remains in hospital.
