iPhone 4 makes its Canadian debut Friday, people line up for hours

TORONTO, Ont. – It’s a special day for gadget geeks with the launch of the iPhone 4 in Canada.

Some people lined up early Friday morning to be among the first to get their hands on one.

The first person in line at the Eaton Centre outside the Apple store was Danny, a 22-year-old chef. He spent 19 hours waiting for his brand new iPhone 4.

Once he had it unwrapped in his hand and fully activated, he couldn’t wait to show off his sleek new device.

He said the reception problems reported in the United States were not affecting him. “For the record, reception is not going down,” he said, holding the iPhone in the so-called ‘death grip’ — that is, holding it with a bare hand.

Many of the iPhone enthusiasts who lined up all night said it was all about being among the first to upgrade their iPhones and have the latest in this technology.

And these gadget-lovers don’t mind if they are called geeks. “I think geek is the new chic,” one man said.
