Arson charges laid against Toronto man and young offender

TORONTO – A 24-year-old Toronto man and a young offender face 12 charges in an arson investigation.

The charges stem from three separate fires that occurred along Gerrard Street East between Pape Avenue and Coxwell Avenue on July 14, as well an attempt to set fire to the front porch of a home in the Browning Avenue and Broadview Avenue area on July 21.

The two were arrested after homeowners called police after witnessing the two males attempting to set fire to their porch.

Shawn McGuinnes, 24, and a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named have both been charged with three counts of Arson, two counts of Attempted Arson and Mischief to Property Under.

Both males appeared in court Thursday morning.
