Businesses taking advantage of HST

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Despite all the protest the HST is here to stay, for now. Jenness Murray with BCIT’s marketing management program is not surprised stores and services have deals like “we’ll pay the HST.”
She says what they’re trying to do is help consumers transition from paying the HST to paying the new tax. “This is a way to get consumers to keep spending. I think with the recession that we’ve had to deal with recently, now with this extra tax consumers are going to be reluctant to spend right now.”
Murray explains even retailers who were already charging GST and PST are getting on board with promotions. She warns that those aren’t really deals, just another way to get you in the store.
