Counting down to G20, 34 world leaders sent invites

TORONTO, Ont. – There are now 34 world leaders invited to the G20 summit in Toronto at the end of June, including seven African nations.

Climate change has also been added to the agenda of the G8 and G20 summits.

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association has filed an injunction against both Toronto police and the Ontario Provincial Police over the possible use of the sonic cannons at the upcoming Toronto summit.

The Ontario Superior Court is set to hear arguments on June 23, just days before the summit begins.

Police have promised to use the device as a communications tool not as a weapon, but critics are calling on police to disable the cannon’s “alert function” that emits a piercing blast of sound that can be used to disable crowds.

The Globe and Mail reported Vancouver police agreed to this compromise during the Winter Olympics.
