Police launch murder investigation after west-end man plunges to his death

TORONTO, Ontario — Toronto police have launched a murder investigation almost a week after a man was found dead at his west-end apartment building.

Officers initially believed Egbert Booth, 42, had committed suicide by plunging to his death at his home, located in the Sheppard Avenue and Jane Street area.

But now, they said Booth was the victim of a home invasion after three armed men burst into his 15th floor apartment late Saturday night.

Det. Sgt. Frank Skubic said that while one of the occupants was robbed at gunpoint, Boothe was chased to the balcony of his unit; but it is not clear whether he jumped, fell or was pushed off.

“The other two suspects come back in off the balcony and vocalized an urgent need that they needed to depart,” Skubic added.

Police have released a video of three persons of interest who were seen running out of the building with their faces covered. To see it, click here.

The 42-year-old worked as a club promoter and was working on at least two events for June.

He leaves behind four children.
