Halladay pitches perfect game

He was never able to do it during his nine years in Toronto, but after just a few months with the Philadelphia Phillies, Roy Halladay threw a perfect game.

As Toronto baseball fans are so used to seeing, when Hallady hit the mound in Florida last night, he was in complete control. Showing the calm, cool demeanour he has become synonymous for, Halladay retired all twenty seven of the batters he faced, including eleven strike outs.

It wasn’t until he got pinch-hitter Ronny Paulino to ground out to third to clinch the perfect game that Halladay finally cracked a smile and began to celebrate.

“It’s never something that you think is possible,” Halladay said. “It’s hard to explain, there are days where things just kind of click and things happen. It’s something you obviously, you don’t ever go out and try to do. It’s a great feeling. “

For Hallady its his first perfect game, and only the 20th in Major League Baseball history. It is, however, the second perfect game in the Majors this month.  Oakland pitcher Dallas Braden threw his own perfect game earlier this month against the Tampa Bay rays.

Halladay received a congratulatory phone call from U.S. Vice President Joe Biden after the game.
