Woman sues United Airlines after left on plane asleep in Philadelphia

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A woman who took an extra long nap on a United Express flight to Philadelphia early Tuesday morning says she woke up to find herself alone on the plane.

36 year old Ginger McGuire claims no one awakened her when the plane landed over three hours earlier. Once she woke up, she paced the aisle for 15 minutes until the locked door opened and police demanded her identification.

“Waking up to an empty airplane and not being able to get out – it was very horrifying,” McGuire told reporters Thursday as her lawyer announced a lawsuit.

McGuire explained that she simply fell asleep due to exhaustion. Her starting point had been Detroit, and then she flew to suburban Washington before Philadelphia. She said the plane landed at half past midnight Tuesday.

United Airlines spokeswoman Sarah Massier refused to comment on the incident because of the lawsuit.

McGuire’s attorney, Geoffrey Feiger, said his law firm filed a lawsuit against United and Trans States, alleging negligence, false imprisonment and distress.

McGuire lives in Ferndale, a suburb of Detroit.
