Man involved in Vaughan pedestrian death turns himself into police

VAUGHAN, Ont. – York Regional Police have charged the driver of a Jaguar following a fatal hit and run early Sunday morning.

Just before 2:30 a.m., a 44 year old Maple man was walking eastbound on Major MacKenzie Drive east of the GO Train overpass in the curb lane.

He was struck by the vehicle, which was travelling in the passing lane. Police said the driver failed to remain in order to render assistance.

The investigation revealed that the Jaguar was a silver 2000 XK convertible, and there was damage to the front passenger side of the car.

The driver, 62 year old Lionel Roberts of Richmond Hill, turned himself into police on Wednesday morning. He is charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, causing death, and will appear in court on June 18.

The collision is still under investigation, and police are appealing to witnesses to come forward.
