Canada’s top 25 immigrants honoured at ceremony Tuesday

TORONTO, Ont. – It was a day of celebration for 25 lucky people in Toronto on Tuesday, where Canada’s top immigrants were honoured in a ceremony sponsored by Rogers, Canadian Immigrant Magazine and RBC.

The Top 25 Awards are held annually for immigrants across Canada who have made great achievements in their new home.

Notable winners this year included Olympic gold medallist Donovan Bailey, CEO of the Vancouver Olympics John Furlong, CBC anchor Ian Hanomansing, martial artist and gym owner Suchart Yodkerepauprai, and senator Vivienne Poy – the first senator of Asian descent in Canada.

The Top 25 winners were presented with a commemorative certificate and a lapel pin.  In addition, $500 is donated to a charity of their choice. Winners will be featured in June 2010’s edition of Canadian Immigrant Magazine.

Another award ceremony will be held in Vancouver on Thursday.
