Five paintings stolen from museum in Paris

PARIS – Similar to a scene from a movie, an elaborate art heist took place in a Paris museum on Thursday.

Five paintings, including a Picasso and a Matisse, were stolen.

An art crime investigator said it is unlikely the paintings would be sold, but they may be held for ransom, or used to fund mob activities.

Reports stated that the museum security system had been disabled at the time of the theft.

The paintings are valued between $123 million and $617 million.
