Toronto police to install more closed circuit TV cameras for G20

With thousands of protestors expected to be in attendance, Toronto police have begun the process of installing 77 Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) to keep an eye on the city during the G20 summit, starting June 25.

“They’re going to be there to assist in ensuring the safety and security of everybody – dignitaries, business owners, residents, those who work and visit the downtown area, and including the protestors themselves,” Constable Wendy Drummond told 680News.

“They are overtly visible to the public, and there are signs as well, posted, saying that these are CCTV cameras.”

However, she added that the cameras are in compliance with privacy guidelines, and will be in public spaces only.

The locations of each of the 77 cameras will be released once they are installed. The ones added for the G20 will be removed once the summit is over.
