Jean Chretien portrait ready for display on Parliament Hill

OTTAWA, Ont. – The official portrait of former Prime Minister Jean Chretien will be hung on May 25 in the lobby of the Parliament building.

It’s been nearly seven years since Chretien left the political spotlight.

His portrait will hang beside those of Pierre Trudeau, Brian Mulroney, Lester B. Pearson and other former prime ministers.

Chretien was elected prime minister three times, in 1993, 1997 and 2000.

Now 76, Chretien was first elected to the House of Commons in 1963.

His portrait is the work of the painter Christian Nicholson.
