Alberta teen sued after saving lives of two children

A teenage babysitter in northwestern Alberta is furious after learning she is being sued after she saved two boys from a house fire three years ago.

Aaliyah Braybrook, 14, was hailed a hero after she brought the two young boys to safety after their home caught fire, but Braybook’s father said the insurance company for the boys’ grandparents have brought about the lawsuit. They live next door and their home was damaged in the fire.

It is believed one of the boys set the fire with a lighter he found in the home, and both Braybrook and the child’s father are being accused of negligence.

Ray Braybrook said his daughter may decide to give up babysitting as a result of the lawsuit.

The grandparents and their lawyer could not be reached for comment, but a spokesman for the Insurance Bureau of Canada said it appears that the insurers are going after each other to determine who is liable.
