TORONTO, Ont. – Free public transit can be added to the granite counters and stainless-steel appliances on the list of amenities that has attracted buyers to Toronto’s hot condo market.
Under a new city policy, condo developers will have to include a year’s supply of Metropasses in each new unit they sell.
Councillor Howard Moscoe – who first introduced the policy – told the Toronto Star he expects it to be the key to get people onto public transit.
However, according to developers the cost of the passes will be reflected in the price of the condo.
The new rule will apply to buildings with at least 20 units in the downtown and central waterfront areas and city centres in Scarborough, North York and Etobicoke.
