Popular high school musical comedy “Glee” returns to TV Tuesday night

“Glee,” the award-winning musical comedy about a misfit high school show choir, returns to Fox and Global Tuesday night after a four-month break.

Tuesday’s new episode is the first of nine.

The show has been a huge success, selling millions of digital downloads and two soundtracks, with another soundtrack on the way.

York University music professor Karen Burke said every possible musical style and taste is there.

“The wonderful thing about it is it’s very cross-generational. I mean, people listen to those songs on all different points,” Burke said.

The show has a cult following, called “gleeks,” and a lot has gone into promoting it’s big return.

Bob Thompson, a well-known pop culture professor at Syracuse University, told 680News the music is actually secondary.

“If that show had nothing but that cheerleading coach, it would be almost worth sitting through the hour episode every week just for that,” Thompson said.

He’s talking about Jane Lynch who plays Sue Sylvester. Her character will soon make her singing debut in an episode completely dedicated to Madonna.
