New study shows mild sleep apnea raises men’s stroke risk

A new study shows that even mild sleep apnea can raise the risk of a stroke in men.

Researchers looked at more than 5,000 people over the age of 40 with no history of stroke, and found that men who suffered from the night time breathing disorder had more than double the risk for a stroke.

The study also found that those men who had moderate to severe sleep apnea were three times more likely to suffer a stroke than those without the condition.

The next step? Researchers plan to determine if the treatment of sleep apnea reduces the risk for cardiovascular diseases.
