Martina Navratilova diagnosed with breast cancer: People magazine report

NEW YORK, New York – Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has been diagnosed with breast cancer, according to a report in People magazine.

The magazine reported the disease was detected early, and the prognosis is said to be excellent.

The 53-year-old athlete was diagnosed with a non-invasive form of breast cancer, which in her case has been confined to the milk ducts and has not spread to the breast tissue.

Navratilova had a lumpectomy and will begin six weeks of radiation therapy in May.

The nine-time Wimbledon champion, who still plays tennis and ice hockey and competes in triathlons, said she is lucky, as she had not been getting regular checkups.
