Police in Sault Ste. Marie are sending a warning to motorists in funeral processions: just because you may be in mourning, it does not mean you can disobey road rules.
Inspector Art Pluss says mourners who drive through a stop sign or red light could now face fines ranging anywhere from $110 to $325 if caught.
This warning follows a recent collision at one of the town’s busiest intersections, which involved an automobile and a vehicle that was part of a funeral procession.
The driver of the second vehicle went through a red light to keep up with the hearse.
Pluss would not say if the driver was charged.
