Several homeowners, fed up with noise, parking, parties, garbage and vandalism in their neighbourhood are suing the city of Oshawa.
They said the city has failed to enforce the zoning bylaw by allowing absentee landlords to rent out as many as six to eight rooms per house as bedrooms for students, which is an illegal agreement in a single family dwelling area.
One mother in the neighbourhood said that parties occur every weekend, and the partygoers have offered alcohol to her children.
The lawsuit is not asking for money; rather, it is asking the city of Oshawa to make sure they ensure the neighbourhood abides by the zoning laws.
The allegations have yet to be proven in court. The city refused to comment because the matter is pending.
