Skyservice shuts down operations

TORONTO, Ont. – Skyservice Airlines has announced the shutdown of its operations following the appointment of a receiver by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Wednesday.

The charter airline cited its debt level and changes to the vacation tour market as reasons for the shutdown.

Skyservice airline teams up with tour operators to offer service to Caribbean destinations and seasonal flights to Europe.

The airline said all flights that were scheduled to depart Canada in April have been cancelled. This also includes the flight leaving for the Dominican Republic, Wednesday.

Jonathan Carroll, the President of Itravel 2000.com, said travellers would most likely not be left stranded because they are being re-booked on other airlines.

“So any passengers that are going into sun destinations for the next four weeks will be provided their vacation.”

Carroll added the real impact will be felt by those looking to book a trip down south this summer.

“You’re definitely going to have fewer options and what we’re seeing already since Skyservice announced that it has seized operations [are] prices going up […].”

Skyservice has been in business for 25 years and employees over 1,200 people.
