Maple Leafs left out of playoffs for six straight year

TORONTO, Ont. – The Toronto Maple Leafs do it again — another year out of the playoffs for the six straight time.

The team hasn’t seen the post-season since 2004, and fans are getting used to the disappointment.

“As a long, long-time Leaf fan, I mean it really hurts,” one man told 680News.

The Leafs were “mathematically eliminated” at the Air Canada Centre Tuesday night against the Atlanta Thrashers. The game-winning goal for the Thrashers came from former Leaf player Nik Antropov.

FAN 590 hockey reporter Howard Berger puts it all into perspective.

“You almost have to be in your mid-teens now to have any recollection, any first-hand recollection of the Maple Leafs playing in a playoff game,” Berger told 680News.

Some optimists believe the Leafs could make a run for the playoffs next season.

“There is some legitimate hope for Maple Leaf fans right now, based on some of the young players I’m watching here. The Leafs have some work to do still and the young players are going to have to prove themselves,” Berger said.

The Leafs haven’t won a Stanley Cup since 1967.
