TORONTO, Ont. – A three-alarm blaze in the city’s west-end, Sunday, has left one man in hospital.
It happened after a fire broke out on the fifteenth floor of an apartment building on 65 Southport St., which is in the Queensway and S. Kingsway area.
Captain Mike Strapko, with Toronto Fire, told 680News crews found a 74-year-old man without vital signs when they were called to the scene just before 7:00 p.m.
“There was a lot of people who called the fire in because there was smoke and flames shooting out of one of the windows up on the fifteenth floor.”
Strapko added that 16 fire trucks and 75 firefighters were on scene at one point.
The building had been evacuated, but residents were allowed back.
Fire officials have estimated damage at $60,000.
The Fire Marshall’s Office will begin its investigation into what caused the fire on Monday.
