Close to 60 road signs stolen in Durham Region over past six months

It’s usually the kind of prank students pull to decorate dorm rooms, but Durham Region police officers aren’t laughing.

Over the past six months, nearly 60 road signs have been stolen in Brock, Uxbridge and Scugog townships.

The thieves are grabbing everything from stop signs and horse-rider warning signs to flashing yellow construction markers.

During the Winter Olympics, someone even stole a street sign in Uxbridge called “Crosby Street.”

Police said that along with the cost to taxpayers, the theft of signs, especially stop signs, increases the risk of serious crashes.
