Poll finds Canadians happy with federal throne speech

The results of a new poll suggest most Canadians who tuned into last week’s federal speech from the throne were happy with what they heard, and more people approved of it than opposed it.

The Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey showed 87 percent of those surveyed agreed with the throne speech proposal to freeze MPs’ and senators’ salaries, and 79 percent liked the promise of more tough on crime legislation within the speech.

As for the actual budget, only 42 percent of Canadians approved it, while 28 percent gave it a thumbs down.

The poll of almost 2,000 adults had a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
