City Council considering ending rent control agreement for city-run childcare facilities

The cost of child care could become an issue in Toronto’s municipal election this fall.

City Council is considering ending a three-year-old rent control agreement for city-run childcare facilities.

The budget proposal would save Toronto $3.2-million, but parents could pay an extra $2 a day.

The Director of the Ontario Coalition for Better Child care told The Globe and Mail taking the lid off rental agreements will have a ripple effect and is calling on council to leave the rent controls in place.
