Stranded driver hit by car as he called for help

A Richmond Hill man who had just survived a crash on a dark road, Thursday night, was calling for help when he was hit by a van and left for dead.

Constable Gary Phillips said the 34-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were walking along the shoulder on Stouffville Road after their car went into a ravine.

The couple were using their cell phones to call for someone to pick them up, when the man was hit.

The van fled the scene, leaving the woman with her dying companion.

A 64-year-old Toronto man surrendered at a Toronto police station, Friday.

There has been no word yet on charges.
