Hotel GM to chair TTC customer service panel

Veteran hotel boss Steve O’Brien has taken on another tough job.

The GM of One King West Hotel and Residence, located at the corner of Yonge St. and King St.,  has been named to head up the Toronto Transit Commission’s customer service panel.

O’Brien has been in the hotel business for more than 30 years.

He was born and raised in Toronto and said although he often used the TTC in his “younger life,” he  now only takes the red rocket “couple of times a week” to get around.

Even so he said he knows the value of transit in the city.

“It encompasses every – really every aspect of Toronto. It’s important to tourism, it provides a means of transportation to many many people. I mean at the hotel we’ve got 200 plus employees and the majority of them take the TTC to work.”

The TTC and O’Brien will work together to choose the remaining members of the blue ribbon panel.

The group, which was created after a few negative incidents on the TTC including the camera phone picture of a ticket collector sleeping in his booth, has until the end of June to put together a draft customer bill of rights.
