Funeral to be held Saturday for slain Ontario woman

Funeral services will be held in Belleville, Ont., Saturday for a woman whose death has led to charges against a Canadian Forces officer.

Jessica Lloyd’s body was found Monday in the community of Tweed, after the 27-year-old Belleville woman was reported missing last month.

Shortly after Lloyd’s body was discovered, police charged the commander of nearby Canadian Forces Base Trenton. Col. Russell Williams is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Lloyd and a second woman – Cpl. Marie-France Comeau.

The case has sent shockwaves through the military community as well as the Belleville-area.

Williams is scheduled to next appear in court via video link Feb. 18 to face the charges. He’s also charged in connection with two sex assaults in the area.

Police say they don’t expect the release the cause of death of either Lloyd or Comeau.

A visitation for Lloyd’s family and friends was held Friday in Belleville.
