Road closures start affecting major routes

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – More road closures and transit detours as commuters begin to get a real taste of Olympic traffic patterns.  We’re at the intersection of Hastings and Renfrew, amid a jungle of cones and barricades.

It seems like a surprise for many drivers on Renfrew this morning as they are forced onto Hastings.  Even a large linen delivery truck tried to pull a u-turn after finding Renfrew closed from Hastings to McGill.  Ontario is closed from 29th to 33th.

Get ready for Thursday! Designated Olympic lanes will be closed to unauthorized vehicles starting that day.  No parking and no stopping restrictions start along Olympic arteries like Broadway, with $100 fines and automatic tows.  Also, don’t forget to scratch the Georgia and Dunsmir viaducts off your commute by the end of the week.

Transit passengers are also feeling it – especially out to UBC.  Of 18 bus re-routes, seven of them are on roads to UBC.  Some downtown routes are changing as Robson becomes pedestrian-only.
