It was what everyone was talking about in coffee shops and hockey arenas in Grimsby yesterday, the deaths of two members of their close-knit community.
Steve Babb, 47, and Sam Vogl, 17, died, and Babb’s Colin, 16, was injured in a skiing accident at Revelstoke Mountain Resort in the BC interior Thursday afternoon.
They skied out of bounds and tried to walk up a steep, icy incline, but instead fell, and slid over a cliff.
Ken Watson, manager of the Grimsby Minor Hockey Association, says Vogl was a popular leader in his peer group, and worked on the student council at Grimsby District Secondary School.
Watson says Babb was a pilot who loved playing hockey in the old-timer league and helped to coach a high school team.
The RCMP says the corner has ordered an autopsy and it’s unclear when the bodies of Vogl and Babb will be brought home.
