The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has suspended Patrice Cormier for the rest of the season and playoffs following his hit to Mikael Tam.
The incident occurred Jan. 17, when the Rouyn-Noranda forward came off the bench and elbowed Quebec defenceman Tam, who went into convulsions and was admitted to hospital with brain trauma.
Cormier hasn’t played since.
The 19-year-old is a second-round pick of the New Jersey Devils and could return to junior next year.
He was captain of the Canadian team at the recent world junior championship in Saskatoon.
Last week, the Ontario Hockey League gave Windsor Spitfires forward Zack Kassian a 20-game suspension for hitting an opponent in the head.
