Certain Daniele brand salami may contain salmonella bacteria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a public alert Monday warning people not to eat certain Daniele brand salami products.

Tainted black pepper is the possible cause of recalling the 1.24 million pounds of salami.

Here is a list of products affected by the recall:

Product: Gourmet Italian Deli Selection
Size: 400 g
UPC: 7 36436 53013 1
Purchased at: Super C stores in Quebec

Product: Italian Brand Gourmet Pack
Size: 500 g
UPC: 7 36436 70737 3
Purchased at: Costco stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba

Product: Gourmet Italian Deli Selection Tray
Size: 600 g
UPC: 7 36436 72005 1
Purchased at: Costco stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba

The salami could be linked to the ongoing salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 184 people in 38 states since July 2009.

The meat may have been imported to Canada; however, Canadian health officials have said there have been no illnesses connected to the products here.
