Canada’s largest media union has demanded that the CRTC hold a public hearing into the cuts to local news at Citytv.
Peter Murdoch, vice-president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union, said Ottawa has been alarmingly tight-lipped about this week’s drastic cuts to local news coverage.
Murdoch has also called on the federal Heritage Committee to challenge Rogers Broadcasting for making staffing cuts while “Rogers advertising revenues jumped 41 per cent during the recession.”
